Child Protection at OLCH
Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin OLCHC is committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care. Child protection is the responsibility of all staff and to support this there are a number of mechanisms in place. OLCHC practice is informed by Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children, DOH 2017. The guidelines for practice currently in OLCHC are a collaborative set of guidelines across the three Children’s Hospitals and are underpinned by the National Guidance. We also have our local guidelines on the Prevention of Abuse of Children by a Staff member while in the Care of the Hospital. It is mandatory for all staff to be familiar with these guidelines.
OLCHC has an active Child Protection Committee reporting to the Board of Directors. Our Child Protection Coordinator for the hospital is Sheila McCrory, Head Medical Social Worker. OLCHC also complies with the Garda Vetting requirements in the recruitment of staff to the hospital. We offer training to all staff and are continuing to develop this in OLCHC and across the three children's hospitals.
OLCHC will continue to strive to ensure all Children are cared for in safe, secure and caring environment.
There are Child Safety notice placed throughout the hospital.
